Become An Expert

Thank you for your interest in LP. Perhaps you will consider joining our select group of physicians and surgeons and other health-care experts. These highly competent professionals have agreed to serve as consultants and expert witnesses in a variety of health-related legal and administrative proceedings. Many perform independent medical reviews and examinations. Our clients include plaintiff's and defense attorneys, insurance companies, regulatory and professional agencies nationwide.

All specialties are needed, especially cardiology, dental specialties, infectious diseases, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics & gynecology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology, pathology & forensic pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry (including forensic) and psychology, pulmonology, radiology, rheumatology, and surgery (including cardiovascular, general, head & neck, oncologic, oral, plastic and thoracic), and urology. Academic physicians and medical scientists (PhD) are particularly welcome. We also represent a number of basic scientists (e.g. DNA specialists, toxicologists), nurses (RN), physician's assistants, veterinarians, health-care administrators and other paramedical specialists with outstanding credentials.

To qualify as an expert, clinicians should be board-certified in their specialty, have a minimum of five years practice experience and hold an unrestricted license to practice in at least one of the 50 states. For academic-based experts, an MD or PhD with appropriate research and publication credentials is the usual standard. A clean record with the National Practitioner Data Bank adds to one's credibility as an expert but is not absolutely mandatory. There is room for individual flexibility depending on experience and credentials. Individual situations may be discussed with our Medical Director.

If you qualify as an expert. hourly rates are established in advance by mutual consent. These usually range from $200-$400 per hour plus reasonable expenses for the medical and scientific disciplines. Fees for deposition and trial testimony are usually somewhat higher than for case review. An expert is free to set his own fees however he or she should avoid excessive charges which may price one "out of the market." Our usual fee is 25% of the total billed excluding expenses unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. We have a four hour minimum per case. Some of our experts are willing to do preliminary case review at a reduced rate (Prelim Review). Check the appropriate box on the Consultant Information form if you are interested in this option.

Case assignment is a complex matter and depends mostly on our clients' requirements and the availability of experts in a particular field and geographic region. Consequently, we cannot guarantee that an expert will be offered a certain number of cases. We do offer a partial refund of the registration fee if we are unable to provide work within one year from the time of sign-up.

If you are interested in becoming an expert, please register by clicking on the Consultant Information and Agreement forms, completing and returning them to us along with a copy of your latest CV. For experts, a $100 initial registration and marketing fee must accompany the application. If acceptable, your name will then be held in confidence and circulated on request to our clients nationwide as a high quality expert in your field(s).
